Transgender Day of Remembrance
Whereas, NOW-NYS strives to eliminate interpersonal violence in all forms, and
Whereas, NOW-NYS strives to eliminate civil inequalities in all forms, and
Whereas, Gender expression is currently excluded from Federal and New York State non-discrimination laws, and
Whereas, Transgender New Yorkers remain at an unacceptable high risk for violent hate crimes, be it therefore “Transgender Day of Remembrance” to memorialize transgender victims of violence, and to raise awareness of interpersonal violence targeting transgender communities.
Therefore resolved that NOW-NYS annually recognize November 20, 2007, as Transgender Day of Remembrance, to memorialize transgender victims of violence, and raise awareness of interpersonal violence targeting the transgender community.
Support Access to Driver's Licensees for Undocumented Residents in New York
Whereas, the safety of all drivers will be improved if undocumented drivers could be licensed and insured
Whereas, discrimination against undocumented residents stands in the way of reasonable needs of such residents to access social services for themselves and their children
Therefore be it resolved that the NOW-NYS urges all citizens to support efforts to open applications for driver’s license to all residents of New York State, documented and undocumented alike.
Anti-Racism
Whereas, diversity is a leadership imperative, and
Whereas, eliminating racism remains an ongoing priority of NOW-NYS, be it therefore
Therefore be it resolved that NOW-NYS Council plan an annual training or event on this.
