April 27, 2010

Search Site With

NOW (National Organization for Women) President Terry O'Neill will be in Rochester and Seneca Falls, NY from April 30 to May 2. As head of the largest feminist organization in the nation, O'Neill works for the organization's priorities, including a US Constitutional Amendment to guarantee equal rights for women, the achievement of full economic equality for women, securing women's rights to safe, legal abortion, full reproductive freedom along with other women's health issues, civil rights for all, ending violence against women, and opposing bigotry based on race and sexual orientation or identity.

During her visit O'Neill will meet with young feminists, NOW members, and the general public (complete schedule below). The highlight will be the Saturday, May 1 Feminist Wine Tour, a bus trip to several Finger Lakes wineries. The bus leaves from Seneca Falls where O'Neill will tour the National Women's Hall of Fame.

NOW-NYS President Marcia Pappas described the visit as "a real privilege to have the National NOW President visit Rochester and Seneca Falls. In fact, it's a rare opportunity for NOW members and the general public to have face-to-face discussions with this important national figure. I, for one, am eager to hear what O'Neill has to say about the chances for CEDAW, the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women, and to learn what hopes she has for the national ERA in the current political climate."

For more information about O'Neill's visit, contact Alberta Roesser at 585-755-8313 or nysnowintern@gmail.com.
