National Organization for Women - NYS Decries White Plains Mayor's Alleged Spousal Assault
March 1, 2010

According to the Daily News - 3/1/10, White Plains Mayor and former Assemblyman Adam Bradley (D) has been "busted in wife assault." The Mayor was arraigned in White Plains City Court after being arrested for Assault in the 3rd Degree, a misdemeanor. Bradley allegedly intentionally slammed his wife's finger in a door.

NOW-NYS (National Organization For Women) President Marcia Pappas notes that "ironically this official, who as a NY State Assemblyman pushed vehemently for No-Fault Divorce, is now being brought up on charges of assaulting his wife." It has often been argued by NOW-NYS that many forms of such legislation allow the monied spouse (usually the husband) to divorce the less monied spouse (usually the wife) without grounds.

According to NOW-NYS President, her organization "has been insistent on knowing the answer to the question: Who is pushing for no fault divorce and why?" She adds: "Perhaps now we know."

Pappas continued: "If these allegations are true, Adam Bradley is certainly not fit to be Mayor of White Plains. As we have said in the past, any politician or elected official who abuses another person is not fit to hold office. The citizens of White Plains deserve better."
