Women across New York State and this nation continue to experience covert and overt sexism and racism every day.   But, when a highly visible personality like Don Imus doesn't recognize sexist/racist remarks that come from his own lips, one has to wonder how much progress we have made in the area of women's rights and how far we have to go to achieve full equality fo women.

On the 35th anniversary of Title IX, the law that required equal opportunities for women and girls in educational institutions, including sports,  the National Organization for Women-New York State is appalled that Don Imus would make such a derogatory and degrading statement about the women of the Rutgers basketball team, stating that they were “rough girls,” and adding “nappy-headed hos” to his description of these hard working athletes.

Today the National Organization for Women-New York State demands that WFAN, CBS Radio and MSNBC dump Imus.  All those who believe in true equality for women and  that sexism and racism must stop, should go to  www.capwiz.com/now/issues/alert/?alertid=9602971&type=CU to send their message.
