Today, Marcia Pappas was invited to speak about NYS Legislation that addresses the Elimination of the Statute of Limitations in rape cases, which has been the topic of feminists in New York State for quite awhile. When Pappas refused to be used as a political pawn by the TV station, she was uninvited to speak. “I was simply unwilling to be manipulated to further FOX’s political interests,” states Pappas.
Pappas told a FOX representative that the National Organization for Women-New York State, is a non-partisan organization and is fearless when criticizing politicians and that no politician is above reproach. FOX seemed to want to focus only on the mistakes that the Democratic Party has made, but Pappas told FOX point blank, that if FOX wanted her, she would be criticizing the NYS Legislature, across the board and that meant both Republicans and Democrats. “As a representative of my membership, I have a responsibility to call it like it is, regardless of party affiliation,” Pappas told FOX.
FOX’s representative insisted on conducting a pre-interview to know what Pappas would be saying during her interview as if she would be expected to rehearse her words. It was obvious to Pappas that FOX was attempting to out-FOX Pappas. And when Pappas informed them that she would be making comments about all political parties and her disgust regarding how politicians use women’s lives as political footballs, FOX uninvited her to speak.
“Good reporting is non-partisan. The maneuver to manipulate my speech only proves how partisan they are in their reporting, and that their interest in human lives and suffering comes second to their politics. If FOX really cared about the lives of citizens, they would welcome a balanced report,” Pappas states.
