Yesterday, Senator Clinton announced that she will stand firm and vote NO on Roberts for the Supreme Court. According to a report, Senator Clinton stated that Roberts failed to state his position "with enough clarity and specificity" during his Senate confirmation hearings.
Last week, Marcia Pappas, President of NOW New York State, Marilyn Fitterman, Past President of NOW New York State, flew to Washington DC to have a face to face meeting with Senator Clinton. At that time, the Senator would not divulge her position on Roberts. NOW leaders urged Senator Clinton to vote on principle, not strategy.
Although there is a good chance that Roberts will be confirmed, today New Yorkers stand proud of Senator Clinton for taking a stand on what is right for all Americans.
President Pappas states "Senator Clinton has taken the road every public official, who is concerned with justice and equality for all citizens, knows is the appropriate choice. Her decision to vote NO on Roberts exemplifies what we all want in our elected officials, which is a representative that cares about the lives of all Americans. In this case, the issues important to the National Organization for Women-New York State, are women's rights, civil rights and the right to privacy. These are issues that are important to New Yorkers, and Senator Clinton has come through for us."
Pappas encourages New Yorkers to thank Senator Clinton for her stand to vote NO on Roberts.
