The National Organization for Women - New York State, Inc. strongly supports A01948 that would require every insurance policy that offers maternity care coverage to also offer pregnancy termination procedures coverage.
In attempts to reduce costs, some insurance companies have limited the procedures they cover, thus restricting affordable access to many important health options. Health insurance providers should not have the power to choose which services a woman has access to. All aspects of a woman’s health should be addressed by health insurance companies and included in their coverage.
With medical rates so high for many procedures, a large number of women would not be able to afford pregnancy termination procedures without insurance coverage. This would cause some women to carry pregnancies to term against their best interest and the best interest of their family.
This legislation ensures that women with health insurance will not be deprived of health care options based on affordability. The National Organization for Women - New York State, Inc. urges the NYS Legislature to pass this important piece of legislation that increases a woman’s access to vital health care options.
